Increase Loop Sorter Performance with Advanced System Controls and Software

Pyramid’s software and controls—displayed in Booth 3903d—improve efficiency in new or existing tilt-tray, bombay, cross-belt and other automated loop sorters.

Pyramid_MAS_SpotCINCINNATI, OH (January 20, 2015) — Pyramid, a Matthews Automation Solutions’ brand, provides software and control solutions for new automated loop sorter installations, and to significantly improve the efficiency of existing sortation systems through re-control retrofits. Pyramid will share examples of recent loop sorter automation control and software installations at ProMat 2015.

Utilizing Pyramid control and software, both new deployments and re-control of existing continuous loop sorters—including cross-belt, tilt-tray, bombay and other types—can be found in numerous distribution centers servicing a variety of industries and product types. These include retail, direct-to-consumer (DTC), apparel and footwear, health and beauty and more. The sorters provide high-speed unit or parcel sortation for DTC order fulfillment, retail order fulfillment, shipping operations, returns processing and other applications.

“Pyramid has maximized performance of high-speed unit/parcel loop sorter software and machine controls over a broad range of technologies and brands by providing seamless integration with the case/tote sortation automation, warehouse management system (WMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) software or other distribution center material handling automation involved in the process,” said Mukesh Ram, co-founder of Pyramid.

Loop sorters are ideal for careful handling of a wide variety of product types and sizes. Enabling this level of advanced sortation automation requires a sophisticated, integrated control and software system integrated across multiple points of complex mechanization to ensure continuous operation at peak performance.

For more than 20 years Pyramid has delivered programmable logic controller (PLC)-based controls, their Pyramid Director warehouse control system (WCS) software, or a combination of both to optimize automated loop sorters, conveyor systems, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), pick and put systems, print-and-apply labeling, auto-bagging and auto-document insertion. With Director WCS’s dynamic allocation algorithms, specifically developed to meet each company’s unique requirements, customers achieve significantly increased performance, capacity, throughput and service levels.

“Our software and controls give users real-time intelligent supervision and direction of their sortation and other automation systems,” continued Ram. “In most circumstances, Director WCS integrates the complete distribution center, including the loop sorters, so that existing loop sorters no longer act as segregated systems. Occasionally customers also have us re-control their legacy tilt tray sorter controls. In those instances, we work closely with facility operations management to ensure zero production downtime while we integrate the existing interfaces to the new control and software system—without modifications to the existing WMS, ERP or other systems.”

Pyramid will have examples of their loop sorter software/PLC controls along with other warehouse automation controls at Booth 3903d throughout ProMat 2015 in Chicago, Illinois—March 23-26, 2015.
