According to the Gartner Hype Cycle for Supply Chain Execution Technologies Warehouse Execution Systems, “are hybrid technologies that blend capabilities from traditional warehouse management systems (WMSs) and warehouse control systems (WCSs). WESs enhance work management in automated warehouses and manage the interplay between automated and manual processes. WESs leverage near-real-time insight into work in the automated warehouse, combined with advanced business process logic, to improve the flow, prioritization and orchestration of work.”
In the Hype Cycle for Supply Chain Execution Technologies, Gartner states “Supply chains remain volatile due to turbulent global economic conditions, challenging companies to find new ways to drive process improvements, higher efficiencies and better business outcomes. The Gartner Hype Cycle for Supply Chain Execution Technologies states Warehouse Control Systems, “manage the near-real-time activities of automated storage, retrieval and movement of goods in a warehouse. WCSs translate business transactional information coming out of a warehouse management system (WMS) into real-time instructions for material handling automation. WCSs monitor output and workstations and increase the efficiency of automation subsystems, including material flow control (MFC) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).”
